Answers to foreign medical school application

1) Will I get credits for subjects completed in another university if I transfer?
Yes. Transfer credits are accepted from recognised universities, however each case is viewed on an individual basis. Transfer students will also be required to take difference exams to make up for subject credits that they have not done at their previous institute of study.

2) Will my qualification/degree be recognised in other countries?
The degree from Oradea University is recognised by the WHO. It is also recognised Internationally by various countries including the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Greece, South Africa, Hungary and many more. Please consult the country you intend to practice in before you apply to confirm recognition. Quite often graduates will be required to write an entrance exam/board exam for their prospective country. In the United states each state may have different legislature, however Oradea University is ECFMG listed.

3) Do you offer scholarships?
Scholarships are offered, however they are more favoured to Romanian students. Foreign students can apply for scholarships once they are registered with the University and provided that they have a 4.5 (90%) or higher average pass rate. Medical Student Advisors also offers 1 scholarship every year where they waiver application and registration fees. For this you must genuinely be in a financially difficult position and must have very good academic results, and must be applying for 1st year under-graduate studies.

4) Are the lessons in English and will I need to learn Romanian?
All lectures are in English and Romanian is not required as a pre-requisite to apply. However students will be required to learn Romanian for their clinical's. Romanian language is offered as part of the course in the 1st 2 years of Medicine. There are also many affordable private tutors available for lessons.

5) When does the academic year begin?
The academic year begins in October. All applications need to be in by September. However it is advised that applicants apply as early as April to avoid disappointment. Quite often all available seats are taken by the June. Students once registered may arrive late under special circumstances.

6) I finish grade 12 in November. Can I apply this academic year
It is best you apply early during the year using your previous years school results. These students may arrive in Oradea as late as 20th November if special permission is given. Quite often though all seats are reserved by August/September.

7) What are the pre-requisites to apply?
We require all applicants to be at least 18 years of age and to have completed 12 years of grade school preferably with a science background. Students should also be fluent in English. This is all we require. No pre-med or college needed.

8) How much are tuition fees?
University tuition fees are 3600$ for under-graduate studies and 3800$ for graduate studies. Medical Student Advisors charges €1997 Euro for Option 1 and €2997 Euro for Option 2 for their application and seat reservation service. Please read more about this here.

9) What are living expenses and conditions like in Oradea?

10) Do you have a refund policy?
Yes. If for some reason your acceptance is not granted, we will refund 90% of your deposit back to you, no questions asked. We are very specific about this and ensure that everything done by the Medical Student Advisors office is transparent and clear. If for some reason like family emergency, you cannot make the current academic year, Oradea University will reserve your seat for you for the forthcoming academic year. 90% of tuition fees will also be refunded.

11) How do I apply?
Click here to apply online now. You will then receive a unique student reference number which you will need to submit along with your documents to the International Admissions Office in South Africa. Your documents will be assessed and our staff will contact you to confirm that everything is in order or whether any other items are required. Your acceptance letter will then be processed after deposit has been made.

12) » Can I practice in the US, UK or Canada?
Yes you can however you will need to sit for the USMLE (US), PLAB(UK) or Canadian Board Exams. Please note that you will also be required to consult your state medical board or specific country medical council to confirm the acceptance of the degree. Some states in the U.S. have different policies. Most countries allow you to sit for their board exam if the faculty is listed by the WHO.

14) Who are Medical Student Advisors and the International Admissions Office?
The International Admissions office is a joint venture between Oradea University and an International Education Consultancy and Marketing agency (Medical Student Advisors) that serves to assist students in the successful placement in Oradea University and other Romanian Universities.

15) What's your banking details for deposits and payment of fees?
Application fees charged by Medical Student Advisors for their service are payable to a US account. Please enquire for details.

16) Why can't I apply directly to the Ministry. Is this the only way to apply?
You are more than welcome to apply directly to the Ministry of Education. If you are on a very tight budget and cannot afford the application services of Medical Student Advisors, you may opt for this method. However please note that most applications sent to the Ministry don't even reach the right desk! You may also be required to resend your documents up to 3 times! Quite often documents go missing and students are informed months afterwards. In order to get a much better chance of securing your seat may we recommend the service of MSA.
